The Russian Library

The Russian Library is a new English-language series of translated Russian fiction, drama, and poetry from Columbia University Press.

Launching its first works in 2016, and continuing over the next 10 years, the Russian Library will feature new and classic translations of masterpieces of Russian literature as well as many Russian literary works that until now have remained underappreciated - and even unknown - outside of Russia.

Russian Library editions will be published in print and electronic formats - definitive and authoritative editions, elegantly designed with accompanying critical commentary and background material.  The series international advisory board of distinguished scholars, translators, and publishers will counsel the Russian Library on commissioning and licensing new translations and criticism.

Inspired by the grand tradition of national literary collections as the Library of America and the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, the Russian Library is the first dedicated publishing program in English to honor the literary accomplishments and heritage of Russia systematically through its literature.

The Russian Library is supported by Read Russia, the Institute of Translation and additional public and private philanthropies.
